Racial and Ethnic Disparity Group Activity

In activity 1. 1 you looked at the DCF dashboards. If you did not do this activity, please click here to do so. Now, Share with a partner (supervisor, coach, lead worker or colleague) the information you gathered when reviewing the data for racial and ethnic disparities in your county and another county in Wisconsin. Discuss what you learned about disparity, any patterns that emerged, and what your findings mean for the families you work with.

With a partner, share the DCF Putting Families First Dashboard related to racial and ethnic disparity numbers for your county and another county. Explore your findings and the impact it may have.  

 

Part A

15min 

  1. Select a partner (supervisor, coach, lead worker or colleague) to share the information you have gathered and ask them to meet with you 
  2. Set a time to meet.  
  3. Review the worksheet you completed during the individual activity prior to the meeting. 
  4. Download the worksheet for the Partner Activity (fillable PDF or word doc). 

 

Part B

15-30 min 

  1. During the meeting share with your partner the Putting Families First Dashboard, filtering it to Racial & Ethnic Disparity data for your selected counties. https://dcf.wisconsin.gov/family-first/data-dashboardand.   
  2.  Share the definitions for the terms disproportionality and disparity with your partner. 
  3. Use the worksheet for the Partner Activity, Suggested Discussion Topics as a guide to your conversation. 

 

 

Terminology 

Disproportionality: The overrepresentation or underrepresentation of a racial or ethnic group compared with its percentage in the total population.  

Disparity: The unequal outcomes of one racial or ethnic group compared with outcomes for another racial or ethnic group.

Description
Share with a partner (supervisor, coach, lead worker or colleague) the information you gathered when completing the Culturally Responsible Practice: Individual Activity 2 about your community and another community. Engage in a conversation about what you learned regarding both communities in terms of  demographic data on income, education, housing, employment, and more.

With a partner, share the demographic data for your community and another one and the resources you used to gather the information. Discuss your reactions to the information, what demographic may be the most challenging for you to work with and why, and the resources available at your agency and around your community.
