Spaced Education

Spaced Education (Spaced Ed) is a simple, efficient learning modality based on two key adult learning principles. One, the spacing effect, when important information is presented and repeated over time, we can increase our uptake of knowledge. Two, the testing effect, when we use a testing format to solidify learning, we can increase long-term retention of knowledge. The Spaced Ed learning modality was found to increase knowledge by up to 50% and strengthen retention for up to 2 years when tested with medical students desiring to improve their knowledge of key practice principles (Kerfoot, B.P, 2009).

The Spaced Ed curriculum is determined based on learnings from various sources, including data gathered from the critical incident review process and recommendations from our state’s Child Welfare Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Advisory Committee.
