The ethics and boundaries topic for this licensing period (March 1, 2019-February 28, 2021) focuses on the ethical use of power.
Based upon feedback from the last round of training, supervisors will now attend the day-long leadership-focused session along with directors, deputy directors and child welfare managers. The 4-hour sessions are only open to child welfare staff.

About this Training
Note: This course is only available to workers who provide child welfare services (child protective services workers, youth justice workers, foster care coordinators) in one of the county departments of social/human services in Wisconsin, staff who provide child welfare services in one of the Indian Child Welfare Departments in Wisconsin, and DCF and BRO staff. (All others will need to make an exception request which will be reviewed and granted on a space available basis.)
This 4-hour course is designed to help participants identify power, theirs and their clients. This includes positional, personal and cultural power. Participants will explore why it is critical to deal with the initial fears so characteristic of most clients as well as how to minimize those fears. Participants will work together, within the context of the NASW Code of Ethics, to develop strategies for addressing client fears about worker power, especially at initial encounters.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please remember that if you are licensed, you must complete a minimum of 4 hours of Ethics and Boundaries each licensing period, so plan enough time for travel, parking and locating the training room to assure that you are in attendance for all 4 hours of the session.
