In addition to her administrative duties at the School and with the Partnership, she is also involved in two research and evaluation projects: (1) With a grant from SAMHSA, the City of Milwaukee began a 3-year project in Oct 2014 aimed at placing chronically homeless adults and homeless veterans in permanent supportive housing using Housing First principles. Project participants will also be offered an array of support services including referrals for substance abuse and mental health treatment, enrollment in benefits programs. Apart from UWM, the other participating agencies involved in this project are Community Advocates, Dryhootch, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and Outreach Community Mental Health Center, Inc.; and (2) Beginning Oct 2016, Gwat will be working with Milwaukee County Housing Division (MCHD) on another SAMHSA funded project. This project is directed at increasing the capacity of Housing First Milwaukee to address homelessness, particularly among chronically homeless individuals; and, homeless families, transitional-aged youth (ages 18-25 years) and veterans. Project partners include Community Advocates, Cathedral Center, Guest House, Hope House, Pathfinders, Whole Health, the Salvation Army, Center for Veterans Issues, Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (BHD) and the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, UMOS, Outreach Community Health Centers, Grand Avenue Club, MATC, Parenting Network, and Pathfinders.
