Supervising the Wisconsin Indian Child Welfare Act (WICWA)

In cases of an American Indian child, county child welfare workers are expected to work in a collaborative way with the child's tribe in order to meet all WICWA requirements. As a child welfare supervisor, your completion of the Case Practice with American Indian Tribes foundation training provided by the ICW Training Partnership is critical to your understanding of WICWA and the direct supervision you will provide to the staff whom you supervise. This foundation training is a required foundation training for all newly hired child welfare staff. The WICWA Desk Aid as well as the information on the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) website are resources that you will want to refer back to as you guide your staff in collaboratively working with the child's tribe to meet WICWA requirements.
